What is AWIS Group Mentoring?
AWIS group mentoring is a small group of women scientists who will create a circle to advise and assist one another through the difficulties and challenges of their competitive careers. The group will meet to discuss, share information, and celebrate success of one another. Each group will have 4-5 peers with coordination of at least one experienced mentor.
Who will be in your group?
The mentoring committee of Seattle AWIS will review submitted mentor/mentee surveys and match you with a group based on interests, career goals, geography and other aspects.
What are we going to talk about?
The group will choose how to manage the schedule and subject matters, but Seattle AWIS will provide you guidelines of ideas and articles to help start conversation. We are convinced that once you get started — you won’t have a problem to find issues to talk about! The group members should be open to give and get professional and personal support from other women in the scientific community.
What are the advantages of group mentoring?
So many … Start from getting to know more women in science in your area, share your experiences, discuss problems, bring solutions, and gain support and values from professionals around you. Being women in science, we could advise one another through a dynamic instruction of group mentoring to help overcome hurdles and cheer achievements.
Are we just going to sit around and complain?
Of course not! The group mentoring is a mechanism for sharing both failure and success with peers, and the focus is to promote career growth and problem solving in a supportive ways. Your mentor will help guide you and promote constructive discussions.
Is it going to be fun?
Absolutely! You will make new close connections with women who share your concerns, interests and values. Mentoring will take place in groups of 4-5 women with at least one Mentor. Time commitment will be 2-3 hours per month over a 6 month period.
How do I join the Seattle AWIS Group Mentoring Program?
You must be a member of Seattle AWIS to join. Once you've become a member, apply for the Group Mentoring Program online by filling out the Mentor or Mentee survey below. For information on joining our email list or for other questions feel free to send us a message!
