The Student Bio Expo is an opportunity for high school students to research biomedical and biotechnology topics and then present them in creative ways through a variety of categories, such as molecular modeling, research, journalism, creative writing, teaching, web site design, career exploration, the investigation of biotechnology companies and more.

Volunteer to be a Mentor!

Students are matched with community mentors from scientific institutions, local businesses, and research organizations. As a mentor, you can provide one or more students with guidance and resources as they plan and develop their Expo projects.

What is involved in being a mentor?

You have a choice in the amount of time and type of commitment you can provide: emails only, emails and in person meetings, or research in your lab. ?Mentoring begins in November 2010 and culminates with the Expo on May 24, 2011.

You can find more information about the Expo and mentoring on the NWABR website, www.nwabr.org/studentbiotech. NWABR will try to match mentors and students by areas of interest but a basic understanding of science or expertise in a project category, will qualify you to be a mentor. You become an important role model and you may plant the seed for a career in science.
